Post MM #2

Experiences of students living on-campus differ from off-campus students at Michigan State University. Kelsey Patten lives on-campus in Rather Hall of Brody neighborhood and likes that there is a full kitchen on her floor including free laundry and a huge study lounge. There is a workout room in her building right upstairs that she utilizes rather than having to go to IM West. Patten said living on-campus allows her to meet a lot more people and be more involved in school by always knowing what is going on.

Allison Castiglione lives off-campus in Campus Village apartments and finds that she likes living off campus because she has her own kitchen and is able to cook her own meals rather than eating in cafeterias. Castiglione gets her own bedroom, which she said she likes because of the privacy and alone time that she needs once in a while. She said she really likes the amenities downstairs of the building like the tanning room and the gym. Castiglione said it is nice to go downstairs and workout rather than have to go all the way back on-campus to workout. Even though Castiglione is off-campus, she said she is really close to campus anyways so it is really nice to have the best of both worlds.

Preview MM #2

Living on-campus versus off-campus is a big topic among students of Michigan State University. On-campus students have a different perspective of what it is like to live on-campus than off-campus residents do. I met with on-campus sophomore student Kelsey Patten in Rather Hall of MSU to look at the experiences of what an on-campus life is like. Even though she is a transfer student, living on-campus has made the transition easier than she thought with how big the campus is and not knowing a lot of people coming in. I also met with off-campus junior student Allison Castiglione at Campus Village apartment complex to find out what her experiences have been like off-campus. The pros of on-campus living versus off-campus living are changing with renovations being made across MSU campus and off-campus making residents happy with amenities.

Blog New Media #1- Review

The new episode of Modern Family, Other People’s Children, started off with the whole family at the Pritchett household for a morning breakfast.

Everyone splits up and goes their own ways leaving Jay and Luke alone. Luke says that Phil wanted him to take a ceramics class because lots of girls do. When Jay comes back with a witty response and said, “You know what a lot of girls don’t do? Guys who take ceramics.”

Gloria and Claire take Lily to a bridal store to pick out a flower girl dress, but all Lily wanted to wear was a Disney princess dress, but both Gloria and Claire said no to the dress.

When Claire told Gloria that she has never tried on a wedding dress, Gloria makes Claire try one on. They both get distracted by having Claire try on dresses and do not notice that Lily left the store to try on the Disney princess dress.

At the Dunphy house, Phil and Andy, the male nanny, make a video love letter for Andy’s girlfriend for their anniversary. Haley had a date with a guy from her school but he didn’t show up on time so stayed and watched the video being filmed.

When Phil makes Haley do a scene with Andy, she realizes that she is oddly attracted to him, but will never admit her crush.

At the museum, Mitch, Cam, Manny and Alex all thought they had art in common, but it turns out Cam wasn’t into art as everyone else so he studied up on only one painter then came to find out his exhibit was only temporary and was closed.

Mitch left because he felt he was the odd one out, but Mitch didn’t want him to leave because that made him the next one in line who wasn’t into art as much.

Mitch then leaves to join Cam after he made a comment that turned out to be wrong, but Manny didn’t want him to leave because now the dunce cap was on him.

In the end, Alex spilled mustard on her shirt and Manny, Mitch and Cam started to critique the stain on her shirt in a laughing matter.

Blog New Media #1- Preview

A lot of college students can relate to the fact that they have to watch their tv shows online after they have been aired because of busy schedules. One of the shows available on Hulu is the critically acclaimed Modern Family. After each episode is aired, Hulu has the show available on its site the next day, for Hulu Plus users, or a week later to watch.

Modern Family has been a hit TV show for ABC since its debut in 2009 with 12.6 million viewers. It is a mockumentary comedy show that takes the viewers into the lives of the intertwined families of the Pritchett-Dunphy-Tucker clan. With witty humor and relatable episodes, the show is still going strong after 5 seasons and will most likely get picked up for another season.

The past episode had Cam have the opportunity to run the school’s spring dance until a former Spanish teacher came back to school and stole his spotlight. Also, Phil hosted the realtor’s banquet and asked his daughter, Haley, who did not want to go, to escort him since his wife, Claire, could not make it. When Phil fell off stage and hurt his foot, Haley accepted his award on his behalf.

The newest episode, Other People’s Children, is set up for Mitch, Cam, Alex and Manny to go for a cultured day at the museum.
